I have a bad problem with those little tiny black ants. Because they get into the cat dish, I feed my 3 cats on paper plates. If I notice ants are in the plate, I just throw it out and replace it. And yes, I have wasted a lot of good cat food this way. I can’t get rid of the ants.
I am going out of town Thanksgiving day and returning Friday. I was worried about the ant problem and how to make sure the cats ate. My sister said to place the dish down into a shallow pan of water and the ants will not get into the dish. I bought a nice stainless steel dish today. It has a rubber ring on the bottom to keep it from slipping. I washed it well with Dawn detergent, rinsed lots, and dried with a paper towel. I put a little water into a glass pie plate and set the dish in it. One of the kitties sniffed and sniffed and then turned her nose up and walked away. (The cat food is the same dry stuff they’ve been eating…and loving). Then another of the 3 did the same thing. There is no soap on the dish – I rinsed it well under running water. What could be the problem? Do you think they will eat the food while I am away? I was going to fill it up and have a neighbor check on them Friday before I get home. What’s the deal with these picky cats?
Oh, I’m just going to be gone overnight – not a week. They’re just like my babies, and I worry about them. I did try those ant traps. They worked for awhile, then the ants returned. I’ve seen them on the kitchen counter, too. I guess I’ll have to call in an exterminator.
