Resolved Question: What are your thoughts on this?

    20th July 2009

I got a German shepherd when he was a puppy, and he’s about 1 1/2 now. He is very energetic, so we thought it might be great for him if we got another dog for him to play with. So we got a black lab about 5 mo. ago, abt the same age. He’s a great dog as well, but we have such a hard time taking care of him (the lab), bc he chews on everything still, and runs away all the time. We keep changing what we’re doing, so that he doesn’t do these things anymore, but he is creative, and finds ways to escape, or finds ways to get into stuff to chew on. We had a steel cage for him which he ruined. We’ve had animal control called on us so many times bc he’s escaped, or bc he’s barking… he is a handful, and a bad influence on the German shepherd. I’m so against giving up a pet, bc they’re part of the family, but Idk what else to do, I can’t keep up w him. The other dog is great, well behaved, but now the lab is starting to influence him. Is it ever the right thing to get rid of a dog, find him a new, good home? He’s so sweet and playful, and I love him, but I literally can’t take care of him. If I didn’t also have the other dog and two little kids and a job, and a disabled husband, I probably could, but I don’t want to feel like a terrible person for doing this to him, bc this is his home. Is it better for him to stay or go?
